NE Tea Association to Honour Two Tea Industry Legends with Lifetime Achievement Awards

The North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) has announced that it will confer Lifetime Achievement Awards to two legendary personalities of Assam’s tea industry Apurba Kumar Barooah and Sagar Mehta. The awards recognise their extraordinary dedication, leadership, and invaluable contributions to both the tea industry and the social fabric of Assam.

The awards ceremony will take place on February 8 at Golaghat during the prestigious Chairman’s Dinner, a biennial event organised by NETA.

In a release of NETA, stated, “NETA will confer the Lifetime Achievement Award to Apurba Kumar Barooah, honoring him as the ‘Social Statesman’ for his visionary leadership that has contributed to the betterment of society.” “Sagar Mehta will be awarded the title of ‘Tea Exemplar’ for his exemplary contributions to the tea industry and the social structure of Assam.”

Both awardees are over 93 years old and have devoted their lives to the growth and development of the tea industry. Their legacy is expected to inspire future generations. NETA has previously conferred the title of “Tea Doyen” to Hemendra Prasad Barooah in 2017 for his contributions to the industry.
