The stranded people including children have food left for two more days, district administration are planning to drop food with drones
Heavy rain, flood and landslides continues to throw life out of gear in North East. Six people, including 3 children, are stranded at Mawali village under Etalin circle in Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. The people got stuck in the village as the two foot suspension bridges, which serves as a means of communication to the village, got washed away due to heavy floods in the Dri river.
Efforts are being made to restore connectivity with the village. Talking to Northeast Live Deputy Commissioner of Dibang Valley, Pagli Sora said that because of the difficult terrain airlifting of the stranded people will not be possible. Sora said “There were two hanging bridges connecting the Mawli village and because of heavy rainfall, the bridges got washed away. So connectivity is completely cut off. We are trying to restore the connectivity also. We are procuring cables from Roing and we will try to connect that part. The terrain is very difficult and airlifting will not be possible.”
The Dibang Valley administration led by Deputy Commissioner Pagli Sora and SP Manish Shaurya had launched a rescue mission to communicate with the stranded persons who had been stranded in the village since May 30. The administration tried to drop cooked food packets to the people but the mission failed in the mid-way.
DC Dibang Valley, Pagli Sora stated “At present 6 people are stranded on the other side at Mawli village. They have accommodation at a farm house. The only problem is that there is shortage of ration items. Yesterday we tried to send the ration items by drone, but it failed. Today with the help of Indian Army we are trying to send food materials by drone. If there will be any issues, we will try alternative routes. At present they have food stuff for 2 more days and by that time we will manage. Now the weather has improved. So the water level has also started to recede. I think we will be able to reach to those families.”
Mawali village is 139 kms from Anini, the district headquarters of Dibang Valley district. Meanwhile, Anini MLA Mopi Mihu, DC Pagli Sora, ZPC Theko Tayu and officials from PWD, RWD and agriculture department visited Athunli and Echanli villages and took stock of the situation. The villages had suffered heavily due to heavy rains, flash floods and landslides. Several houses had been damaged. The team also distributed relief materials during the visit.
