The letter sent by Commission’s Joint Secretary on December 20 has asked the Manipur government to submit a comprehensive report.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, to submit a detailed report within 10 days regarding the horrifying Jiribam incident.

The letter sent by Commission’s Joint Secretary A. Asholi Chalai on December 20 has asked the Manipur government to submit a comprehensive report by December 30, detailing the actions taken in connection with the incident.

The letter said that the NCW has received a representation from the Republican Party of India (Athawale) regarding the gruesome abduction and murder of six individuals, including three women and three children, in Jiribam on November 11, 2024.

Recognising the seriousness of the matter, the NCW urged the state government to prioritise the issue and take immediate steps to protect the rights and safety of women and children in Manipur.

The NCW’s letter describes the incident as a “profoundly disturbing and egregious act of violence” that demands “immediate and stringent action.” The apex body for women’s rights has expressed its readiness to assist in ensuring justice for the victims’ families and preventing such acts of violence in the future.

“The Commission, being the apex statutory body working for the protection and promotion of women’s rights in the country, stands ready to assist in any manner to ensure justice for the victims’ families and to prevent such egregious violence from going unpunished,” the letter states.
