This statement came after Namrata’s father, Ramen Kumar Borah, approached the Assam Chief Minister seeking a thorough investigation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to initiate a fair and impartial investigation into the mysterious death of 26-year-old Namrata Bora, who tragically died in a car accident near Nongpoh in the early hours of June 4.
Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma wrote, “I request Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri @SangmaConrad, to kindly look into a tragic incident that occurred near Nongpoh Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday, June 4… In view of the concerns raised by the bereaved family and well-wishers, I request that a fair and impartial enquiry be conducted by a senior police officer to ensure that all facts surrounding the incident are brought to light.”
This statement came after Namrata’s father, Ramen Kumar Borah, approached the Assam Chief Minister seeking a thorough investigation into his daughter’s untimely and suspicious death.
Namrata Bora, a resident of Dhodang village in Assam’s Golaghat district and a tenant in Guwahati’s Rukminigaon area, had reportedly left her rented room at 1:30 AM on June 3 without informing her family or roommates. In a disturbing twist, she had also left behind her mobile phone an unusual move according to her father, raising concerns of possible coercion or foul play.
Namrata was accompanied by four individuals, including Anayatul Wadud, who was allegedly driving the vehicle (AS 01 EV 9578). Others in the car were Mriganka Boruah, Pragya Dihingia, and Gayatri Borah. The car reportedly crashed around 5:30 AM near Nongpoh. While two of the companions took Namrata to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival, they failed to inform the police. The authorities were eventually alerted by hospital staff.
Suspicion deepened when it was reported that Anayatul and Gayatri fled the scene, and Anayatul later attempted to falsely identify someone else as the driver.
Namrata’s father has since lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station, demanding a full investigation into what he suspects could be a premeditated act rather than a road accident.
As public pressure mounts, the call for justice grows louder. With both Assam and Meghalaya police now involved, the truth behind Namrata Borah’s tragic death remains a crucial question demanding urgent answers.
