Sikkim: Namchi SP Manish Kumar Verma investigating Padam Gurung death case transferred

Padam Gurung was found dead on June 28 in the Kazitar area of Namchi, Sikkim

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Namchi Police Station, Sikkim, Manish Kumar Verma who was investigating the mysterious death of Padam Gurung, student and President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) at Namchi Government College has been transferred today.

Tsering Namgyal Gyasto will now take charge as the new SP of Namchi Police Station.

Manish Kumar Verma has been posted as SP, CID, Police Headquarters, Gangtok.

As per inputs, the government transferred Manish Kumar Verma because the government was unhappy with the way he was investigating the matter.

It may be mentioned here that Padam Gurung was found dead on June 28 in the Kazitar area of Namchi, Sikkim.

According to sources, Gurung was untraceable since June 27 night after he was reportedly washed away following heavy rainfall. His body was recovered from a drain the next morning.

The case took a new turn today after his brother alleged that Padam was harassed at college and his friends had even sought protection from the college principal.

A special committee has been set up to investigate Gurung’s death.
