Nagas should not be disintegrated while addressing prevailing situation in Manipur: UNC to HM Shah

Breaking up Naga areas in any way will have serious ramifications that will provoke further senseless violence among the different communities, said UNC
Amid the volatile situation in Manipur, the United Naga Council (UNC) in a message to the Government of India said that Nagas should not be disintegrated while addressing the demand of any community or settling any political alignment to address the prevailing situation in Manipur and the Naga people must be consulted while considering any settlement.
UNC submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday in Imphal regarding the matter of enduring, inclusive and Indo-Naga political settlement based on the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.
In the memorandum, UNC said, ” We (Naga people) will not accept any disintegration of Naga areas in attempting to address any appeal or demand by any community. Breaking up Naga areas or adversely affecting the Nagas in any way will have serious ramifications that will provoke further senseless violence among the different communities,”
UNC requested the central leadership for immediate intervention to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur which is on the boil since May 3, 2023, after violence broke out in the state.
UNC said that the state has never witnessed such clashes ever before.
It said that thousands of arms and ammunition from the State Government’s armoury have been taken by angry rioters, resulting in bloodshed, lawlessness and insanity, overshadowing the ‘rule of law’ Despite the enactment of Article 355.
UNC urged the central government for managing the grievous situation with an iron hand for ending this madness immediately with the resources and power that has been invested in the Government of India.
“In the light of the above situation, the Government of India must uphold the sanctity of the historic Framework Agreement in letter and spirit for enduring and peaceful co-existence of India and the Nagas and to expeditiously translate the same into a political reality,” UNC added.
