Nagaland’s H. Hokato Sema Honored with Arjuna Award for His Exceptional Achievements in Para-Athletics

This year, 34 athletes, including 18 para-athletes, were recognized with the Arjuna Award.

In a moment of immense pride for Nagaland, Hokato Hotozhe Sema (41) was conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award today for his exceptional performance in sports and games, specifically in the Para-Athletics discipline, at the National Sports Awards 2024.

Hailing from P. Vihoto Village in Aghunaqa, Niuland district, Hokato was presented with the award by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Hokato’s remarkable achievements include winning a bronze medal in the Men’s Shot Put F57 event at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, and another bronze at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.

Congratulating Hokato on his outstanding accomplishments, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his admiration, stating, “Heartiest congratulations to Mr. H. Hokato Sema on receiving the prestigious Arjuna Award for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games 2024. His dedication and achievements have inspired countless aspiring athletes.”

This year, 34 athletes, including 18 para-athletes, were recognized with the Arjuna Award. The Arjuna Award is one of India’s highest honours for sporting excellence.

Alongside Hokato, 4 other notable athletes such as double Olympic-medallist shooter Manu Bhaker, teenage chess world champion D. Gukesh, men’s hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh, and Paralympic gold-winning high jumper Praveen Kumar received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, India’s highest sporting honour, presented by President Murmu.

These awards celebrate the resilience, determination, and excellence of athletes who have elevated India’s presence in international sports, with Hokato’s achievements standing as a testament to his dedication to Para-Athletics.
