Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye on Thursday virtually inaugurated the 1 MW Ponglefo Small Hydel Project SHP Hydro Electric Project at Salomi Village, Kiphire.
KG Kenye called the inauguration of the hydro energy project a red-letter day and proud moment for the state and especially for the Department of Power. He acknowledged that Nagaland may not have massive resources, but it possesses numerous mini and small hydro potential sites, which must be tapped strategically. Kenye extended an invitation to international investors to explore opportunities in the state’s clean energy sector and reiterated the government’s commitment to fully leveraging all available resources for energy development.
He emphasized the critical role of energy in modern life, highlighting that power drives everything from simple household appliances to technological progress and space exploration. He asserted that the advancement of a nation is measured by its energy production and management capabilities Kenye praised Nagaland’s natural wealth, calling it one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots, and urged the responsible and proactive utilization of its renewable energy potential — including hydro, solar, and bio energy.
Kenye also lauded the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for prioritizing energy development and thanked the Power Department officials, engineers, technical staff, and labourers for their dedicated work on the Ponglefo 4 hydro project under Salome Village. He also appreciated the cooperation of local leaders, village councils, landowners, and the administration.
