Nagaland DY CM visits Manipur riot victims in hospital, 22 buses sent to evacuate Nagas from Manipur

Eight people injured in the violence in Manipur were admitted to Oking Hospital in Kohima

Deputy chief minister of Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton visited those injured in Manipur violence admitted at Oking Hospital in Kohima.

There are eight male victims, aged between 19 and 35, all hailing from Kangpokpi district admitted at the hospital.

During his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister interacted with the patients and their family members and provided them financial assistance.

Addressing the media, Y. Patton informed that the State government is actively involved in evacuating students from Nagaland studying in Imphal, as well as Naga settlers in Manipur.

To ensure their safety, the Nagaland government has deployed 22 buses along with two platoons.

Additionally, the state government has requested the assistance of the Assam Rifles for security. Y. Patton stated that there are over 600 individuals to be evacuated, and the current fleet of 22 buses will not be sufficient. He assured that more buses would be sent, with the expectation of their arrival by tonight or tomorrow.

Dr. Joel Ngully, Senior Consultant Surgeon at Oking Hospital, provided an update on the patient’s condition. Of the eight admitted patients, three are in the ICU. Although their conditions were critical upon admission, they are now stable and under observation. The remaining five patients are also stable and are being kept in the ward. Dr. Joel mentioned that four emergency operations were conducted upon their arrival, and one patient was admitted last night, with two more this morning.

“We have admitted around 8 patients, 3 of them are in ICU and their conditions were initially very critical when they came in but as of now they are stable and we are still keeping them for observation. The rest of the patients are kept in the ward and their condition is stable. There are no critical patient as of now.”

Regarding reports of stranded buses in Senapati, Y. Patton had a telephonic discussion with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

“I had a telephonic conversation with Manipur CM and he assured me the safety of the naga students studying there,” said Patton

Consequently, the buses stranded in Senapati have begun their journey towards Imphal.

Y. Patton expressed his deep regret over the unfortunate incident in Manipur and wished all the injured a speedy recovery. He appealed to the Manipur Government to address and resolve the issue once and for all.
