The meeting also touched on border-related concerns, particularly with Assam, and important infrastructure projects.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Ministers Y Patton and T R Zeliang along with cabinet colleagues, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi last night to discuss pressing issues including the Naga political process, the Frontier Nagaland demand, and key developmental concerns for the state.
Sharing details of the meeting on X , CM Rio stated, “Called on the Hon’ble Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation Shri @AmitShah Ji, along with my Cabinet colleagues. We discussed the Naga political issue, Eastern Nagaland political issue, Nagaland-Assam border issues, & important development projects in the State.”
The Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Ministers were joined by ministers CL John, Temjen Imna Along, Metsubo Jamir, and Salhoutuonuo Kruse.
Post the meeting, Nagaland Cabinet Minister Temjen Imna Along also shared his thoughts on social media, highlighting the importance of the dialogue.
“Grateful to have been part of a pivotal moment in Nagaland’s journey, as Hon’ble CM Shri Neiphiu Rio Ji called on Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah Ji. Alongside esteemed leaders Shri Yanthungo Patton Ji, Shri TR Zeliang Ji, and other dignitaries, we engaged in a meaningful dialogue on critical issues—from the Naga political process to vital development projects. Together, we took a step closer to a brighter, united future for our state,” wrote Temjen on X.
The timing of this meeting is crucial as it follows the November 16 Nagaland Cabinet decision to press the Central government on expediting the resolution of the decades-old Naga issue and the NSCN-IM statement of November 7.
In terms of the Frontier Nagaland Territory demand, the meeting of the Nagaland leaders with the Union Home Minister is also quite significant. The state government has already conveyed its remarks to the Union Home Ministry on the draft Memorandum of Settlement (MoS-III) for the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) or Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).
The meeting also touched on border-related concerns, particularly with Assam, and important infrastructure projects aimed at accelerating development in Nagaland.
This high-stakes interaction is being seen as a decisive step towards addressing the political aspirations and developmental needs of Nagaland, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s journey towards a brighter and united future.
