Imchen said, "Those opinions were untenable and were not in conformity with reality."
In a strong response to recent allegations, Nagaland Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Imkong L. Imchen has vehemently rejected claims labelling the BJP as an “anti-Christian party.”
Taking note of the attack against the BJP by Congress and some church organizations, Imchen who is also the Advisor for soil and water conservation and IPR has emphasized that the BJP has been unfairly targeted by various quarters despite the party’s non-involvement in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Imchen said, “Those opinions were untenable and were not in conformity with reality.”
He said that only the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Congress are contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with the BJP opting out of the race.
Slamming the Congress party, Imkong reminded the people that it was under the Congress regime that unimaginable and unbelievable atrocities were carried out against the Naga people during the 50s 60’s and 70’s.
He said that it was under the Congress leadership when the then Prime Minister Late Jawaharlal Nehru said, “Even if all the rivers run by Naga blood I don’t care.” To this, Imchen said that Nehru’s stand has caused the Naga people very dearly.
“All these atrocities committed under Naga people were done by the Congress government. They are the one who committed all such unbelievable, untold stories,” said Imchen.
Imchen said that no political party, except Congress, had converted Nagaland churches into military prison camps during the Naga freedom fight.
Taking a jab at the Congress manifesto, Imchen slammed the party for encouraging homosexuality and said, “BJP is against and will never agree to that.”
He also opined that Congress should seek forgiveness from the Naga people for the atrocities committed against the Nagas for more than two decades.
Further, he said that the state needs to maintain a cordial relationship with the centre pointing out that Nagaland is a consumer society.
