Kekietuo Solo, 34, worked as a driver at the Police Engineering Project in Kohima but lived like a king. He owned two vehicles and had at least Rs 38 lakh in cash at his home. You must be wondering how did Kekietuo, a simple, humble government driver have this kind of money? Well, Kekietuo stole over Rs 2 crore in just two years. From just Rs 35,000 from Oriental College, Kohima to Rs 95 lakh from Kohima Municipal Corporation, Kekietuo managed to plunder as much as he could.

It is his lavish lifestyle and spendings that gave Kohima Police their big breakthrough. They caught Kekietu yesterday after two years of hunt for the big fish who managed to steal from colleges, automobile showrooms and even the Kohima Municipal Corporation.

Kekietuo was involved in at least 11 burglary cases. Since August 2023, Kekietuo was on a burglary spree. During his arrest the police recovered 33 items from his residence, 20 items from his vehicle, and an amount of Rs 38 lakhs and two vehicles.

The investigation, spearheaded by a dedicated Special Investigation Team of Kohima Police, intensified after the audacious heist at the Kohima Municipal Corporation Office on June 3, 2025. Officers worked tirelessly over the past two and a half weeks, employing a combination of advanced technology for forensic analysis and suspect identification, coupled with crucial human intelligence gathering.

Investigators identified suspicious spending patterns by the accused following the KMC heist. This critical lead, combined with meticulous reconnaissance, led the team to the accused Kekietuo. During interrogation, he confessed to committing 11 major burglaries, Additional SP Soriso Quinker said at a press conference in Kohima today.

The confession brings closure to these cases and reinforces our commitment to public safety. We are focused now on recovering the stolen assets. This success sends a clear message – crime will not go unpunished in Kohima, Quinker said.“
