The walk began from the Lerie junction in Kohima with a prayer under the theme "One People One Destiny".
At a time when the peace talks over the Naga Political issue are witnessing a deadlock, a special solidarity walk kick-started on Thursday morning at 6 AM, with Nagas rising up to the occasion and cutting across the borders to join the walk.
The walk began from the Lerie junction in Kohima with a prayer under the theme “One People One Destiny”.
The solidarity walk is being spearheaded by the Global Naga Forum in collaboration with various Naga civil organizations, including student unions from beyond the borders of Nagaland.
From Kohima, the walk will proceed to Angami, Mao, Maram, Poumai, and finally, culminating in Senapati on July 29.
Notably, Nagas from northeastern states including Nagaland, Arunachal, Assam, and Manipur are taking part in the walk. Additionally, the NNC is also participating in the unity walk. The NNC, also participating are 16 Nagas from Myanmar representing the Eastern Naga Students Association (ENSA).
It is learned that the motive behind the peaceful walk is to “break the artificial barriers separating the Nagas and that Nagas stand in unity regardless of the artificial boundaries.”
Earlier, the Global Naga Forum and Coordination Committee released a notification where it mentioned that the the objective of Naga Solidarity Walk is to celebrate Nagas being together and bridge the divisions.
The walk, as the GNF stated, will reinforce community bonds. Further, it maintained that the walk is a pro-Naga movement and a non-violent one.
Meanwhile, Northeast Live caught up exclusively with GNF co-convenor Rosemary Dzuvichu who said that the walk is the first leg of a people’s relay for unity and peace in the Naga homeland. She even stated that the center must realize that the Nagas are one and shall stay united.
