Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Mizoram’s apex students’ body, has strongly criticized Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh for his alleged land-grabbing game of Zo ethnic tribals’ lands in Manipur on the pretext of reserved forest, demanding a stoppage of his activities.
The student body asked Manipur government to immediately put a stop to its activities of evicting the ethnic Zos from their own land and asking them for ILPs and threatened the Manipur government by saying that if it continued to take action that are unsafe for the ethnic Zo people, then MZP would not be responsible for anything that happens to Manipuri (Meitei) people in Mizoram.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the MZP said that it had closely monitored the problems faced by ethnic Zo people in Manipur, highlighting that the Manipur government’s attempts to evict ethnic Zo people from their settlements to take over their land and declare the land as reserved forest, protected forest, wildlife sanctuaries, and wetlands were the origin of these problems. The MZP condemned the actions of Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh’s government against ethnic Zo people.
The student body further criticized the Manipur government’s demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) from Zo ethnic tribes from Mizoram, stating that it was detrimental to the ethnic Zo people and could lead to discord between the Mizoram and Manipur governments. The MZP demanded that the Manipur government stops demanding ILP from the ethnic brethren.
The MZP vowed to continue working for the safety of ethnic Zo people in Mizoram’s neighboring states and around the world, promoting unity among ethnic Zo people to preserve the brother/sister-hood of the community.
