The Manipur University Teachers Association has decided not to attend the meeting with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

The meeting which was scheduled for 10 am today was cancelled by the MUTA after it laid forth three preconditions which they are demanding need to be fulfilled first.

First is the release of the arrested teachers. Second is the release of the arrested students and thirdly the complete removal of security forces from inside the Manipur University campus.

The MUTA has asserted that the meeting with the Chief Minister will take place only after these three conditions are met.

However, despite putting forth such conditions, the teachers association also expressed gratefulness about the fact that the Chief Minister had taken the initiative to invite them to talks over the matter.

It is to be noted here that the invitation for talks from the Chief Minister was extended to the MUTA after its president I. Tomba said that the teachers body would be more than willing to talk to the government if invited for talks and Tomba had exprssed this desire in the show Northeast Tonight on Northeast Live.
