Motha Supremo Pradyot Debbarma Warns BJP-Led Govt: Fulfil Tiprasa Accord or We’ll Reconsider Being in Govt

Pradyot Debbarma also criticised the state government for delaying the Village Committee elections despite clear orders from the High Court.
Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma is talking tough. In a clear and stern message to both the state and central governments, the Tripura royal scion has said that if the Tiprasa Accord signed on September 4, 2024 is not implemented in right earnest than his party that has 13 MLAs in the 60-member Tripura Assembly and two ministers in the Manik Saha cabinet, will be forced to reconsider its decision of being in the BJP-led state government.
In an exclusive interview with North East Live, Pradyot stated that he will not compromise merely for power at this stage in his life. “If we cannot deliver what was promised in the agreement signed by the Government of India and the state government, then we must look for other options. If the word is not honoured, we have no right to sit in the government.”
He said that he is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah within the next two weeks to raise the issue personally.
When asked about the benefits of Tipra Motha being a part of the BJP-led ruling coalition in the state, Pradyot replied bluntly that there had been no real gain. “What is the use if only a few people become ministers while the rest of our villagers remain poor?” he asked. He stressed that the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord must be the top priority.
Pradyot also criticised the state government for delaying the Village Committee elections despite clear orders from the High Court. He pointed out that contempt of court proceedings are already underway. “Why is the state government so reluctant? Even court orders are not being honoured,” he questioned.
The royal scion of Tripura accused both the Congress and BJP governments of continuously failing the tribal communities and pushing them toward frustration. “There’s a systemic process to push tribals into the corner. Eventually, when they are frustrated and resort to violence, they are labelled terrorists,” he said.
Raising concerns over unchecked infiltration, Pradyot warned that Tripura is on the verge of a demographic and political shift. He said that the state lacks enough police and administrative strength to handle illegal immigration, especially from Bangladesh and Myanmar. He called on the Centre to take direct action. He also linked the current situation in Tripura to the ongoing unrest in Manipur and urged the government to act before it is too late.
Despite the setbacks, Pradyot appealed to the indigenous people of Tripura to remain patient and united. “I believe we will win our fight for the socio-political and ecological rights of the Tiprasas,” he added.
