Manipur Airhostess: Singson was one of the crew members from Manipur who was killed in the Ahmedabad air crash
The mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson, one of the crew members the ill fated Air India flight AI171 is reaching her native place in Manipur today.
Family members, relatives, and community leaders from Kangpokpi departed early morning for Dimapur Airport to receive the mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson. The first group left Kangpokpi at around 5:00 AM, which included immediate family members, close relatives, and local civil society leaders. A second group, led by representatives of the Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills and the Sadar Hills Private Schools’ Association (SHIPS), left Kangpokpi at around 7:30 AM. The body is being flown in from Ahmedabad. Her two elder brothers and a cousin departed Ahmedabad with the body of Lamnunthem Singson at around 8:00 AM. and is expected to arrive at Dimapur Airport by 1:45 PM.
A condolence service will be held at Dimapur Airport under the aegis of the Kuki Union Dimapur, with the participation of the Naga Council Dimapur and the Director of the Airport Authority of India, Dimapur. Following the service, the entourage will proceed towards Kangpokpi which is expected to arrive by 9:00 or 10:00 PM tonight, factoring in the poor road conditions and several brief condolence halts by community members on the way.
The body of 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, one of the two flight attendants from Manipur who was killed in the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, was identified from DNA samples.
The other crew member from Manipur who lost her life in the Ahmedabad air crash is Nganthoi K Sharma who hails from Imphal. Nganthoi’s family is waiting for her remains to arrive in Imphal.
The tragic deaths of these two young daughters of Manipur seem to have brought the two divided communities – the Kukis and Meiteis together.
The Meiteis have called for unity in receiving the bodies of the two air hostesses setting aside the differences.
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), which is a key Meitei civil society group, earlier stated that people should come together for a dignified return of the two women who died in the Air India plane crash, adding that both daughters belong to Manipur.
However, the family of Lamnunthem Singson doesn’t want her body to travel through Imphal and chose to take the longer route via Dimapur in the neighbouring state of Nagaland.
