Mizo National Front (MNF) leader in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) Rashik Mohan Chakmaon Sunday said that he has staked his claim to form the next government in the CADC.

Sources from CADC told over phone from Kamalanagar (Chawngte) that he met Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday and staked claim to form the next government in the CADC. He had submitted the list of his supporters to the Governor.

He said that while the MNF was short by one seat to have a simple majority in the 20-member CADC, he could manage to garner 3 more members of district council (MDCs) as 5 of the 3 BJP MDCs joined the MNF after the election results were announced on May 11, and he now has 13 MDCs supporting him to form the next government.

The MNF bagged 10 constituencies of the CADC for which election was held in 19 seats on May 9 while the BJP and the Congress secured 5 and 4 seats respectively.

Election was countermanded in Rengkashya seat due to the murder of Amit Kumar Chakma in a clash between the supporters of the BJP and the MNF, the party ruling the state on May 4.

Polling would be held in Rengkashya seat on Wednesday and counting of votes would be conducted on Friday.
