Meghalaya government has requested the Mazdoor Union to call off its decision on not to carry petroleum products to the three districts of Meghalaya.
Amid news of Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) deciding not to ferry petroleum products to three districts of Meghalaya, the Meghalaya food civil supplies and consumer directorate has asked all DCs and SPs of Meghalaya to provide security to the transporters and ensure the safety of the vehicles and the people.
The government has requested the Mazdoor Union to call off its decision on not to carry petroleum products to the three Meghalaya districts of Ri Bhoi, East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
The directorate order dated November 24, requested the Union to “make necessary arrangement of manpower so that supply of POL products is in no way affected in Meghalaya”.
The APMU would be meeting tomorrow to decide on whether it would reume the transport services or not. A decision would be taken after consultaing all stakeholders, APMU said.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills district has assured that there is no scarcity of any petroleum products anywhere in the district and asked the people to refrain from panic buying.

The APMU had earlier in the day decided to stop transporting petroleum products to the three districts if they were not given proper security under the present circumstances.
Situation in Meghalaya continues to be tense with reports of arson coming in from the capital Shillong this evening. A traffic police booth was set ablaze and a city bus was attacked at the Civil Hospital junction, a busy and central location of Shillong.
Situation in the state has been tense since the Mukroh firing incident of November 22 when 5 Meghalaya residents were killed in Assam Police and Assam forest guard firing.
