In order to significantly improve Meghalaya’s educational infrastructure, the state government plans to renovate and build new school buildings for over 2,000 schools at a cost of Rs 200 to 300 crores. 

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stated that the government will set aside approximately 48 lakhs for schools that require new buildings, adding that there are approximately 200 schools.

Informing that there are different schools in different conditions, the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said some schools will require two to three lakhs while some will require four to five lakhs.

On the issue of teacher shortage, the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the state government is working hard to address the issue. He informed even in terms of teachers in the last four years, the state government has appointed 1,300 teachers on a temporary basis.
