M’laya CM Conrad Sangma on Exit Polls: Expect better than exit poll numbers

The four exit polls have given NPP anywhere between 11-26 seats. In 2018, the Meghalaya based national party had won 20 seats
Meghalaya Chief Minister and national president of NPP Conrad Sangma said on Tuesday that he is expecting the final numbers on March 2 to be much better than what the exit polls have predicted.
“We expect our numbers will be on the higher side of the exit poll numbers. Maybe the numbers will go beyond that (what the exit polls have predicted). We have always maintained that we will do much better than before, which the exit polls are reflecting…that there is a very good possibility that we will do much better than before,” the Meghalaya CM who is contesting from South Tura for a second term said.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister who is fighting anti-incumbency, allegations of corruption, issues related to coal mining, lack of development in the state, handling of border issue with Assam, ILP among other issues, spoke exclusively to Northeast Live and said that his party’s numbers will definitely be better than the numbers of 2018 assembly elections.
In 2018 the party won 20 of the 60 seats and joined hands with UDP, BJP, PDF, HSPDP to form the NPP-led Meghalaya government.
Asked about the fractured mandate, something that Meghalaya is known for and the exit polls too had predicted, Sangma said that the NPP will take a decision once the results are out on March 2.
“Based on the results which comes out on 2nd (March 2) we will decide on the future course of action after sitting with all the MLAs and the different party leaders and than we will take a call on how to move forward.”
The Axis-My India Today exit polls gave NPP 18-24 seats, The India News-Jan Ki Baat gave the Meghalaya’s regional party that is now a national party, 11-16 seats, The Times Now – ETG gave 22 and The Zee News-Matrize gave NPP 21-26 seats.
