The party was the first to announce its list of candidates for all the 40 Mizoram Assembly seats
With barely a month left for the crucial assembly elections in Mizoram, The opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has gone all out to woo voters.
Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader and its chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma on Thursday said that his party would give top priority to farmers if it comes to power.
Addressing the ZPM block conference at Khawrihnim village in Tripura border Mamit district, the ZPM leader said that about 60 per cent of the state population is dependent on agriculture and allied sectors.
“ZPM will give topmost priority to the uplift and development of farmers. We will construct paddy fields (wet rice cultivation) with the help of modern technologies and machines as much as possible,” he said.
He said that gentle slope areas would be turned into terrace farming, garden and jhum cultivation.
While hillsides with high vertical rise will be reserved for green forest areas for the development of biodiversity, water resources and good climate, he said.
He said that a proper plan will be made for cluster cattle farming to develop the state in cattle rearing.
Lalduhoma also said that the ZPM will construct three new power dams to generate 274 MW power if it comes to power and the new government will not hike power tariff for five years.
It might not be wrong to say that ZPM is among the first political parties in Mizoram to talk about the upliftment of the farmers or the farm sector in the state.
The party was the first to announce its list of candidates for all the 40 Mizoram Assembly seats.
