Mizoram Assembly elections 2023 would be held on November 7 and counting of votes would take place on December 3, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said today.
A total of 8.52 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the polls. There are 4.13 lakh male voters, 4.39 lakh female voters and 50,611 first time voters, ECI data said.
Here are the polling details:
Last date of filing nominations – Oct 20
Scrutiny of nominations – Oct 21
Withdrawal of candidature – Oct 23
Date of Poll – November 7
Date of counting – December 3
Election process to be completed on – December 5
There are 22 non- non motorable polling stations where Election Commission officials will go on foot and 19 riverine polling stations in Mizoram where the officials will go by boat, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said addressing the press in New Delhi today.
Mizoram would have 1,276 polling station – 525 in urban areas and 751 in rural areas. 95 polling stations would be managed by women. There would be 40 model polling stations and 11 would be managed by persons with disability (PWD).
Term of the current Mizoram Assembly will end on December 17.
Polls would be held for all the 40 constituencies.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga and his Mizo National Front (MNF) is looking for another term in office, while the Congress is hoping to leverage on the anti-incumbency factor. CM Zoramthanga has already said that he is confident of a clean sweep one more time and his MNF would win 30 of the 40 seats.
MNF and Zoram People’s Movement have already announced its candidates for all the 40 seats.
The current Manipur situation is expected to play a significant role in the Mizoram elections this time.
In the 2018, MNF won 26 of the 40 seats, ZPM bagged 8 and the Congress won 5.
