Mizoram Gets First Railway Connection Since Independence: Mizoram’s capital finally gets connected to India’s railway network with the completion of the railway bridge near Sairang, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and economic growth.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday, announced the completion of the railway bridge near Sairang, calling it a major milestone for Mizoram. He shared a short video of the achievement on X, stating, “Another milestone in connecting Mizoram. Bridge near Sairang completed.”

The railway line extends from the Bairabi border in Assam to Sairang, which is close to Aizawl. The entire project is expected to be inaugurated in July. So far, Rs. 7,714 crore has been spent, with the total cost capped at Rs. 8,215 crore.

K Vanlalvena, a Rajya Sabha MP, informed Parliament that the railway line from the Bairabi border of Assam to Sairang is nearing completion and will soon be operational. This new railway connection will integrate Aizawl into India’s railway network for the first time since independence, opening new opportunities for trade and travel.

The 51.38-km railway line between Bairabi and Sairang is divided into four sections: Bairabi-Hortoki, Hortoki-Kawnpui, Kawnpui-Mualkhang, and Mualkhang-Sairang. The successful completion of this railway project is expected to significantly boost Mizoram’s connectivity, economic prospects, and overall development.
