Mizoram Football Association Bans 25 Players, 3 Clubs and 3 Officials For Match Fixing

Eleven players have been banned for 3 years, 4 players for 5 years and 8 players have been banned for a year.
In a big development, Mizoram Football Association has banned 25 players, 3 football clubs and 3 officials for their alleged involvement in match fixing during the 11th edition of the Mizoram Premier League held recently.
Among the 25 players, two players – Lalnunzama who was playing for Chanmari FC and L Lotha playing for FC Bethlehem have been handed a lifetime ban, an official release of MFA said.
Football clubs, Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, and Ramhlun Athletic FC have been banned for 3 years.
Eleven players have been banned for 3 years, 4 players for 5 years and 8 players have been banned for a year.
“Through diligent investigation including support and cooperation from local law enforcement agencies, the MFA has uncovered cases of corruption in the form of match manipulation in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League-11…The MFA is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity in our competitions. As a consequence of these findings we have imposed strict penalties on those involved,” the MFA statement said.
The main issue is of spot fixing wherein betting takes place elsewhere in places like Vietnam that ultimately determines the outcome of matches in the league, Lalrengpuia, Honorary Secretary of MFA said adding that suspicions began to arise during the league when four clubs reported about an investor who turned out to be a single entity.
The MFA understood the loopholes in the system and therefore immediately held Integrity Workshop back in August to create awareness and uphold the rules. This led to the Chawnpui FC to come forward and cut ties with their “investors”. They have also decided to freeze accounts used to deal with business with said entities.
The MFA has also been in contact with All India Football Federation who has been very supportive with their decision to uphold the integrity of football.
The disciplinary action is being seen by many as a ground breaking precedence for football across the nation.
