Chief Minister Zoramthanga recently made a statement that the MNF is not afraid of the NDA and that the alliance is based on development and issue-based

The Mizoram BJP unit on Tuesday dared the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) to leave the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), saying that the ruling party would not have the courage to leave the alliance.

Spokesperson of the BJP in Mizoram Pradesh, K. Laldinthara, alleged that while some MNF leaders have been threatening to leave the NDA, they will not dare to do so, and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is also desirous to join the anti-Congress alliance.

“Chief Minister Zoramthanga and other ministers have been talking about snapping ties with the NDA, but they will not dare to do so. So, let them not try to cheat the people of Mizoram with their threats,” Laldinthara said.

Accusing the MNF leadership of having double faces, the BJP spokesperson alleged that whenever Union Ministers visited the state, they used to make a plethora of pleas for financial assistance.

The MNF is a strong pro-NDA party in Delhi but opposes the BJP in state politics, he said.

Though MNF is a constituent of the BJP-led NDA as well as the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), the lone BJP legislator sits in opposition in the state legislature as the saffron party continues to be a pariah in the Christian-dominated state.

“The ZPM is also making attempts to ally with the saffron party in the coming state assembly polls and we have a voice recording of one of the party leaders,” he claimed, adding that there are some regional party leaders who had hold talks with the state or the central BJP leadership.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga recently made a statement that the MNF is not afraid of the NDA and that the alliance is based on development and issue-based.

He reiterated the ruling party’s strong opposition to the proposed legislation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and its implementation in the country, as it will be detrimental to the tradition, culture, and religious practices of the Mizo people.

The two Members of Parliament, C. Lalrosanga (Lok Sabha) and K. Vanlalvena (Rajya Sabha), had also raised their opposition to the proposed legislation and implementation of the UCC.

They have also demanded discussion in the Parliament on the Manipur crisis on a daily basis and even skipped a meeting of the NDA MPs recently.

Meanwhile, ZPM leader and chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma has categorically said that the party will not have a pre-poll alliance with the BJP.

However, he did not want to make any comments on whether the ZPM would join hands with the saffron party in the event of a hung assembly in the coming state assembly elections.
