Mizoram: Assam Rifles recovers 748 kg of explosives from Sairang

In a major explosives haul in Sairang, Mizoram, Assam Rifles recovered a whopping 748 kg of explosives and arrested two persons in this connection. The shipment was moving on the Sairang Road from Lengpui towards Aizawl and further to Manipur via Tipaimukh.
“In yet another success in its crusade against anti-national activities, Assam Rifles recovered 28 Cartons of True Blast slurry explosive (each carton weighing 25 kg) and four cartons of detonator cap (each carton containing 250 Detonator caps and weighing 12 kg). Total weight 750 Kgs alongwith three vehicles and apprehended two persons in General Area Sairang Junction on 12 March 2024,” Assam Rifles said in a press release issued today.
The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Sairang Police Station, Aizawl based on specific information of movement of three vehicles on Sairang Road from Lengpui towards Aizawl and further to Manipur via Tipaimukh.
The shipment was intercepted by three strategically placed mobile vehicle check posts along with a main team. The driver of two vehicles, one scooty and one car were apprehended, however, the third driver of Pick-Up truck being juvenile and only hired unaware of the cargo was let go, the press release said.
The recovered war-like stores were handed over to Sairang Police Station for further legal proceedings.
“It is alarming that the pilferage of such explosives is going on rampantly. Nevertheless, Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the “Sentinels of Northeast” have been successful in launching such operations against the move of war like stores through Mizoram,” the release added.
