Missing Indore Couple Case: CM Sangma received a call from the office of Union HM urging him to ensure the safe return of the couple.

With time running out for the newly-wed couple from Indore who had gone missing in Sohra on May 23, pressure is building for Conrad Sangma-led Meghalaya government to locate them.

After a call from his Madhya Pradesh counterpart, Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, CM Sangma received a call from the office of Union Home Minister urging him to ensure the safe return of the couple who are still missing for the 7th day today.

Speaking for the first time regarding the incident, the CM said that he is personally monitoring the case on a daily basis and tourists visiting the state are treated as family members and the police, the administration and local villagers are all putting in their best working round the clock, the best technology is being used; to trace them and he is hoping for some positive news regarding the missing couple.

“For us our tourists are like our family. And especially in Sohra area, they’ve always treated every tourist as part of their own family. And hence, the entire community today is involved in this. And every single village has offered their help. They are tirelessly working along with the administration. We are hopeful, we’ll get positive results and we’ll be able to find the couple. We are working very hard. The police, the administration and most importantly the villagers are all working very hard”, the CM said.

CM Sangma highlighted the difficulties being faced in searching the couple because of the rugged mountain terrain and inclement weather. “This is the pre-monsoon season and Cherrapunji and the entire belt is known to experience heavy rainfalls. This makes things difficult. It’s a very, very difficult task as we move along. But we are giving it our best to ensure that we are able to find the couple.”

Earlier yesterday, Meghalaya Minister and BJP leader A L Hek visited Sohra and took stock of the search and rescue operation following requests from Madhya Pradesh BJP leaders.

The newly-wed couple, 30-year-old Raja Rghuvanshi and hie 27-year-old wife Sonam had reached Meghalaya on May 22 for their honeymoon, and went missing on May 23, exactly 12 days after their wedding.

At least three search and rescue teams, supported by K9 units, drones and Special Operations Team personnel, have been deployed to locate the couple.
