UPSC shortlist 3 IPS officers for Meghalaya’s next DGP post

Three Assam-Meghalaya Cadre IPS officers have been empanelled by the UPSC for selection as the next Meghalaya Director General of Police or DGP.

The three IPS officers include Mukesh Agarwal Special DGP Assam of 1989 batch, LR Bishnoi Special DGP Assam of 1991 batch, and KV Singh Deo of 1989 batch respectively.

Of the three, Mukesh Agarwal is the senior-most and had earlier served in Meghalaya. He also pursued his early education in Shillong.

It may be mentioned here that it is the prerogative of the state government to select any of the three IPS officers in the panel as the next state DGP.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government has appointed the state’s former DGP R Chandranathan as security advisor to the state government.

A government notification in this regard states that the former DGP will be based in New Delhi and will be responsible for coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs and other central and intelligence agencies.

In addition, he would also be responsible for VIP security in other parts of the country except Meghalaya.

Besides, R Chandranathan will be given a monthly honorarium of Rs 75,000.
