Meghalaya transport minister bats for odd even formula in Shillong

As Meghalaya capital Shillong continues to bear the brunt of traffic congestion, state Transport minister Dasakhiat Lamare is calling for reverting back to the old odd-even formula.

Transport Minister Lamare said he would meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma soon to discuss the issue.

Lamare said that the Government has taken steps to ease the traffic congestion in the city by shifting major offices to the new Shillong area. He, however, added that the lack of space in the city was a major drawback and the reason why the Government cannot construct over bridges, skywalks, and other initiatives within Shillong.

Lamare added that the shifting of offices from the city to the New Shillong area would definitely help ease traffic snarls and the government is working on various strategies that can be implemented to reduce traffic congestion.

Notably the Meghalaya State Government had implemented the Odd-even rule in the city to ease the traffic and for crowd control during the second and third wave of the Covid pandemic.
