West Garo Hills SP Abraham T Sangma has informed that police are investigating to verify the claims after pictures surfaced on social media.
Sangma said that they found a large group of young boys and girls drinking in the open very late at night near the graveyard in the Rongkhon Songgital area. Those gathered were apparently drunk as well.
“After a verbal complaint was received, a police team lead by the SI of the Araimile Beat House reached the spot and found the complaints to be true. Upon seeing the police, most of those gathered dispersed.
However, many of them were reluctant to and thus our team had to be forceful,” Sangma informed.
He added that no report of assault had been made until the allegations surfaced on social media.
He further added that after a thorough search, police were able to locate the girl, who is also a student.
“Since an allegation has been levelled on the force we are investigating to find the truth. If indeed it is found to be true, then departmental enquiry will be initiated against any accused personnel,” Sangma added.
The girl in question, who was pictured with a bloodied face and a deep gash on her head. Police will be recording the girl’s statement.
