In the wake of as many as seven petrol bomb attacks in less than a month being reported from different locations of Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong who is also in charge of Home (Police), said on Wednesday that DGP L R Bishnoi has been asked to stay on ground to keep a close watch on the law and order situation in the state and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
Tynsong said, “The Director-General of Police (DGP) has been instructed to be on ground and to ensure these things do not happen in future. The government will not allow these things to happen and will ensure there is no breakdown of law and order. The investigation is on”.
He also urged people to stay calm “as the law and order has not totally broken down.”
Since April 3, there have been 5 petrol bomb attacks – 4 in Shillong including the attack at the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation office yesterday and one in Jowai. Two attacks took place in the Shillong Sadar police station and Rynjah Police station in the early morning hours today, May 1.
Team Northeast Live visited the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation office premises in Shillong post the blast yesterday. The caretaker of the office claimed that 2 bike borne miscreants lobbed the petrol bomb on the premises at around 11.40 pm yesterday. CCTV footage of the incident accessed by Northeast Live showed that the petrol bomb missed the vehicles parked inside the compound by a whisker.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu said that security is being stepped up in the city.
