Meghalaya MP WR Kharlukhi Demands Independent Inquiry Into Alleged Irregularities In MPSC, Says Will Resign if Wife at Fault

Meghalaya Rajya Sabha MP and senior NPP leader Dr WR Kharlukhi on Thursday urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to initiate an independent judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities within the Meghalaya

Meghalaya Rajya Sabha MP and senior NPP leader Dr WR Kharlukhi on Thursday urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to initiate an independent judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities within the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and offered to resign if his wife, Corina Lyngdoh a member in the Commission is found guilty of any wrongdoing.

“Mark this today, if an independent inquiry finds that my wife is involved, the very next day I will resign as Member of Parliament,” Kharlukhi said.

This comes in the wake of a recent campaign launched by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to raise awareness about nepotism and corruption in the MPSC’s recruitment process.

“There is a Supreme Court ruling in which 87.5% is for the written exam and 12.5% is for the personal interview. This ruling came because there were irregularities in the Assam Public Service Commission, and upon inquiry, it was found to be true. Till date, the chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission is in jail. So, no commission in the whole of India will go against this Supreme Court decision,” Kharlukhi added.

He further said, “There is corruption everywhere, but the blame is on the NPP only. What I find is that this is only politics. If you have guts, find out and pinpoint, but don’t generalize.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) also met with the Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar and urged to set up an inquiry or initiate proceedings against the office-bearers of MPSC for alleged irregularities in the conduct of ongoing Meghalaya Civil Services (preliminary) examinations.

The KSU said proceedings against the officials pertaining to the MCS examinations and other irregularities will uphold the integrity of the commission and pave the way for a fair and transparent recruitment.
