Families of miners who remain untraced for over 4 months now in the tragedy hit coal mine at Ksan in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills, despite continuous rescue operations, have given their No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the state government to stop the rescue operations in the ill-fated coal mine.
The Meghalaya Government had requested the Supreme Court to allow calling off rescue operations in the mine site considering futility of the whole exercise.
The tragedy took place on December 13, 2018 when a group of labourers went down the rat-hole coal mine, not apprehending the danger. While one managed to escape, 15 others remained trapped as water gushed inside.
