Meghalaya’s biggest traditional market Iewduh or Bara Bazar opened to public after close to 2 months on Friday. Iewduh reopened after a two-day vaccination drive facilitated by the district administration for the shopkeepers.

The government has allowed the reopening of the shops at Iewduh on a rotational basis under strict supervision of the police and the local authorities here.

The vaccination drive for COVID-19 has been increased by another week to encourage more shopkeepers to come forward and get themselves vaccinated.

The second day of vaccination of the shopkeepers and hawkers saw a better response where as many as 344 people came forward to get their jab after a lukewarm response on the first day.

Meanwhile, Northeast Live spoke to some shopkeepers and the traditional head of the market to get their take on the re-opening of the market.
