While addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh acknowledged the common romanticized view of women’s status in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya’s Health Minister, M Ampareen Lyngdoh, the only woman minister in the Conrad Sangma cabinet, has drawn attention to the significant challenges women face in politics.

While addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh acknowledged the common romanticized view of women’s status in Meghalaya.
However, she pointed out that despite the state’s unique cultural practices, women continue to face significant oppression and discrimination in various forms throughout their lives.

Speaking at a programme commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme, Lyngdoh expressed that the political arena is challenging for women, who often find themselves sidelined or relegated to lesser roles.

On the issue of sexual violence, Lyngdoh called for victims to report assaults to the nearest police station, highlighting the importance of immediate action to prevent further harm.

The event, organised by the District Social Welfare Officer and the District Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner’s office, took place at the Meghalaya Rongali Bihu Auditorium in Shillong, with Lyngdoh as the chief guest.
