Meghalaya CM Sangma, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot shares stage, bats for unity of indigenous people

The two prominent leaders called on the indigenous people of the region to come together, raise their voice in unison for their upliftment and constitutional rights

In a significant development that could have far reaching impact on the indigenous people of Northeast, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Debbarma today shared stage as they attended the mega rally at Khumulung in Tripura organised by Tipra Motha and called on the indigenous people of the region to come together, raise their voice in unison for their welfare, upliftment and constitutional rights and make their voices heard in New Delhi.

In his address, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said, “The time has come for all the indigenous people of Northeast whether Khasis, Garos, Jaintias, Bodos, Dimasas, Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas, Tiprasas, Mizos to come together and send your voices as one to New Delhi. Go to Nagaland, it can be seen that the community runs the party. In Meghalaya the community tells you what to do, go to Garo Hills, the Nokma says what to do. Go to Mizoram, the Mizo society tell their leaders, politicians what to do. This fight is for rights and Greater Tipraland. Our fight will continue until we reach our goal, we will keep fighting.“

“This is not a fight to make someone a minister, not to make 20 persons MLAs, not to make anyone Chief Minister, but this fight is for getting rights for the 15 lakh Tiprasas,” Pradyot Debbarma added.

Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, who attended the rally at the invitation of Pradyot Debbarma, extended his support to the Tiprasa people and their cause. Giving a strong message of unity, Conrad Sangma said that the people of Northeast must stand together so that their voices can be heard in the corridors of power in Delhi.

Sangma said, “Our unity is paramount. I believe that the voice which has been raised today, we will make efforts with Bubagra (Pradyot Debbarma) and take the matter to the Parliament. I promise that we will take your voice there (to the Parliament). We want that we move ahead Constitutionally and find a solution.“

In his speech, Conrad Sangma batted for unity among all the indigenous people in the region. He feels that one has to protect their own rights. Chief Minister Sangma in this context said, “we are not here to fight or to go against any community or individual or any party. But we realise that when it comes to protecting our rights and our people there will be nobody else but us to do it. Therefore, we must take up the responsibility and hence today when this mega rally is organised I am here to show my solidarity and support for Tiprasa and for the Maharaja and for all of you that we will work with You hand in hand to take the cause of indigenous people forward.“
