Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has reaffirmed the state’s unwavering commitment to eliminating the drug menace that has destroyed the lives of many young people. The government, through the Drug Reduction, Elimination, and Action Mission (DREAM), is working tirelessly to support vulnerable youth in their fight against substance abuse.

As part of this ongoing effort, Chief Minister Sangma led the High-Level and District-Level Drug Disposal Committee of Meghalaya Police to destroy narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth Rs. 53.86 crore. The incineration took place at Star Cement Ltd. in Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District.

The drugs disposed of were connected to cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across five districts of the state: East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, and East Jaintia Hills.

This significant action highlights the Meghalaya government’s strong resolve to address the drug problem and safeguard its youth from the devastating effects of substance abuse.
