Governor urged legislators to work collectively in shaping the state’s future, ensuring that development remains a shared responsibility.
The budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly commenced today with Governor CH Vijayashankar delivering his maiden address, setting the tone for a crucial period of governance. Emphasizing unity and progress, he urged legislators to uphold Meghalaya’s tradition of parliamentary decorum and work collectively toward the state’s ambitious goal of becoming a $10 billion economy by 2028.
“As we continue our ambitious journey to transform Meghalaya into a $10 billion economy by 2028, we recognize this moment as an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to the development of our great state,” Vijayashankar stated. He called on lawmakers to unite in their pursuit of progress, driven by a shared vision for a prosperous Meghalaya.
Highlighting key governance initiatives, the Governor lauded CM Connect and Hello Meghalaya—two technology-driven platforms aimed at enhancing public engagement and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage.
“We have made significant advances in the past year, introducing innovative initiatives that leverage technology to put Meghalaya’s vibrant cultural identity in the spotlight while ensuring effective governance,” he noted.
Vijayashankar also acknowledged the government’s focus on infrastructure development, including improvements in roads, power, and water supply. He highlighted increased investments in tourism and agriculture as critical drivers of economic growth. Additionally, he reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare, education, social security, and livelihood programs, ensuring a holistic approach to development.
The Governor commended the state’s peaceful conditions over the past year, citing the smooth conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 District Council elections as reflections of Meghalaya’s stable democratic framework.
As the session progresses, he urged legislators to work collectively in shaping the state’s future, ensuring that development remains a shared responsibility. “Let us unite in our pursuit of progress, driven by our shared vision for a thriving Meghalaya,” he said.
