Meghalaya: BSF-BGB pledges to curb refugee influx from Bangladesh and trans-border crimes

The BSF and BGB emphasised on zero tolerance towards the smuggling of drug firearms, explosives and human trafficking.
With Mizoram, Tripura and other northeastern states witnessing a regular influx of refugees from Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today decided to make a joint effort to try and stop the influx and tackle trans-border crimes such as smuggling of drugs, firearms, explosives, and human trafficking ensuring better security and stability in the region.
The decision was taken at the Inspectors General of Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) level Border Coordination Conference (BCC) held in Meghalaya.
During the conference, the 13-member Indian delegation, led by IG of BSF Tripura Frontier, Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, and the 13-member BGB delegation, led by Md Shazedur Rahman, Additional Director General and Region Commander of Chattogram emphasised on zero tolerance towards smuggling of drugs, firearms, explosives and human trafficking.
Addressing media persons, Md Shazedur Rahman, BGBM, Additional Director General, Region Commander, Chattogram said that they would identify sensitive and vulnerable areas along the International border to check trans-border crime. They also pledged to fight crimes and discussed ways to reduce border killings to zero.
Rahman stated that to achieve better results, necessary steps will be taken to further sensitize the border population, increase vigilance in vulnerable areas, and share vulnerable information regarding drugs, narcotics, and arms dealing. The BGB and BSF have agreed to bolster the current preventive measures against such crime.
The conference which started on July 1 concluded today. With the conclusion of the conference, the BSF and BGB have signed a Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) document at Shillong, Meghalaya.
