Massive Landslide Hits Kohima-Mao Stretch on NH2 in Nagaland’s Phesama; Manipur-Bound Traffic Affected, Check Alternate Routes Here

Of the 28 km stretch between Mao–Kidima–Chakhabama, 9 km lies within Manipur and is currently under maintenance by Manipur PWD.

A massive landslide on the Kohima-Mao Road (NH-02) at Phesama, Nagaland has severely disrupted the movement of essential goods and passenger vehicles headed towards Manipur. The affected stretch is a vital lifeline connecting Nagaland with Manipur, and the disruption has raised significant logistical concerns.

Of the 28 km stretch between Mao–Kidima–Chakhabama, 9 km lies within Manipur and is currently under maintenance by Manipur PWD. This stretch remains open for both goods and passenger vehicles.

The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) is currently working on restoring the damaged section. Although the Government of Nagaland has made land available for restoration efforts, the sheer scale of the landslide means the repair process may take some time. Meanwhile, traffic has been diverted to:

Route 1: Dimapur – Kohima – Phesama – Kisama – Jakhama – Mao – Maram – Imphal (193 km) for light vehicles

Route 2 (for up to 2-axle load traffic): Dimapur – Kohima – Chakabama – Kidima – Mao – Maram – Imphal (207 km).

Alternate Routes for Heavy Vehicles

  1. Dimapur – Jharnapani – Jalukie – Peren – Maram – Imphal (293 km).
  2. Dimapur – Kohima – Chakabama – Jessami – Ukhrul – Imphal (372 km).

The Government of Manipur has expressed gratitude to the Nagaland authorities for their cooperation and assistance during this critical situation.
