Mary Kom’s Father Confirms Divorce with Onkholer Kom As Per Kom Traditions

The announcement puts to rest weeks of speculation surrounding the couple’s marital status.
Boxing icon and six-time World Champion Mary Kom has officially separated from her husband, Onkholer Kom, through mutual consent as per Kom tribal customary law. The Mangte Pare Manipur (MPM), the apex body of the Mangte clan to which Mary Kom belongs, announced the couple’s divorce during a press conference in Imphal today.
Mary Kom’s father, Tonpa Kom, attended the press briefing, where MPM declared that the couple finalised their divorce on December 20, 2023. The separation took place in the presence of their family members and clan leaders, who acted as adjudicating authorities as per tribal tradition.
MPM clarified that the decision was mutual and peaceful, and both Mary Kom and Onkholer Kom have moved on positively with their respective lives. The body further stated that Mary Kom is currently living cohesively with their four children, in accordance with the terms of the mutual agreement.
