A pall of gloom descended at the home of Lamnunthem Singson in Ngambom Veng Ward No. 8 in Kangpokpi as the news of the crash of Air India flight AI 171 in Ahmedabad came in.

Lamnunthem was a part of the 10-member crew on board the London-bound flight that crashed today at around 1:38 PM within minutes of taking off from the Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Lamnunthem and her family are among the internally displaced people who was earlier living in Old Lambulane, Imphal but had moved to Kangpokpi with her family once the conflict broke out in Manipur in May 2023.

Locals from the area gathered at Lamnunthem’s house to stand by the family in these difficult times. The community came not only to offer prayers, but to stand in support with the grieving family.

Northeast Live was at Lamnunthem’s home. Her mother, Nemneilhing Singson said that she spoke to Lamnunthem yesterday evening when Lamnunthem said that had travelled to Ahmedabad to report for duty.

Lamnunthem was the only daughter of the family. She had three brothers. Her father passed away some years ago, and her mother raised them.

Another young girl from Manipur, Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam from Thoubal was also on board the Air India flight AI 171 as part of the crew member.
