CM shared significant milestones in the state's economic recovery and development efforts, despite ongoing challenges.

Manipur’s economy is showing some green shoots. After the over a year and a half long unrest in Manipur that started on May 3, 2023, the state’s economy seems to be recovering.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the state’s own resources and GST collections have increased by 18% between May to September 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

“Our state’s economy has shown signs of recovery. The State’s Own Resources, including GST, have grown by 18% from May to September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023,” CM Singh said in a series of posts on X from his official handle.

Biren Singh highlighted the state’s progress over the past year and a half, despite facing numerous challenges. “Sharing some key achievements that prove progress is possible, even through the difficulties Manipur has faced over the past one and a half years,” he stated.

CM Biren Singh also addressed the issue of delayed infrastructure projects, particularly the land acquisition challenges for National Highway and Railway projects. “We’ve resolved various land-related issues for the Railways, and in the past year, we’ve made about 50% of the pending land available for National Highway projects,” he said.

The Chief Minister outlined several major projects currently underway, including the Lamphelpat Waterbody Rejuvenation Project, which has an estimated cost of Rs. 650 crore and aims to prevent floods in Imphal while providing an alternative water source. Additionally, the Imphal Sewerage Project Phase II, with a budget of Rs. 1,100 crore, is in progress to improve sewerage services in the city.

Looking ahead, CM Singh announced that the Imphal Ring Road Project being built at a cost of Rs. 1,660 crore and the Rigid Pavement Roads Project coming up with an investment of Rs. 3,300 crore are in the final stages of planning, with construction expected to begin soon.

In the education sector, the government has launched the ‘College Fagathansi Mission’ with an initial budget of Rs. 60 crore to enhance government colleges across the state, continuing the momentum of the ‘School Fagathansi Mission’ initiated in 2019 to improve government schools.

“These initiatives mark significant strides toward improving infrastructure and education in Manipur,” the Chief Minister added.
