Meet Anish Ahamad, a climate activist from Manipur who is on a mission to make a carbon-free India under a theme Make India Green Campaign.
Ahamad, who has been planting trees since his primary schooldays, has planted over 50,000 trees so far apart from distributing over 40,000 saplings to various individual and organisations as a part of his environmental awareness campaigns.
Ahamad, a post-graduate in Geography, holds workshops and awareness programmes for children in which he teaches the young minds about the importance of environment conservation.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Ahamad said that more approach is needed to make a carbon-free India.
“Focusing on grassroots movements for protecting the forests is one of the areas he gives an importance to”, he added.
Meanwhile, speaking on the lack of government support, Ahamad added that he has approached the state government seeking financial aid, however, his efforts have not yielded any fruits.
“From harvesting tree seeds, making seedlings to raising private nursery all expenses are from my own effort”, Ahamad said.
It may be mentioned here that, with the aim of generating mass awareness, Ahamad has also taken part in self-funded marathons, covering several kilometres.
