Manipuri film ’Joseph’s Son’ to feature as Indian premiere at 29th Kolkata International Film Festival

Manipuri film ‘Joseph’s Son’ directed by noted filmmaker Haobam Paban will feature as the Indian Premiere in the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival 2023 to be held from December 5 to 12, 2023.
The film will compete with 11 other Indian languages films at the event.
Joseph’s Son will also be screened at the 28th International Film Festival of Kerala 2023 from December 8 to 15 at Thiruvananthapuram.
The film tells a story of a young teenager who returned home in Manipur amid the ethnic conflicts and insurgency.
His father Joseph embarks out on a mission to find his football enthusiast son. As Joseph travels, his fear grows deeper. It is a fear of perpetual uncertainty, both past and present, to which a personal void is added when he is asked by the police to confirm the identity of the unidentified body in the morgue. It is a journey that no parent would like to take ever.
The main character of the film, which is based on the short story “Joseph ki Macha” written by Sahitya Akademi awardee Sudhir Naoroibam, is renowned folk singer Rewben Mashangva. The screenplay was written by Sudhir and Paban.
Paban’s other film “Iron Women of Manipur”, and another Manipuri filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi’s “The Gift” have also been selected for 5-day long 17th edition of Film Bazaar beginning on November 20 alongside the 54th International Film Festival of India 2023 in Goa.
Other 11 films in the competition are— Ozhuki Ozhuki Ozhuki by Sanjeev Sivan, Avni Ki Kismat directed by Shonet Anthony Barretto, Kherwal by Uttam Kamati, Blue Sunshine by Samyuktha Vijayan, Valli by Manoj Shinde, Kandeelu The Ray Of Hope by K Yashoda Prakash, Gorai Phakhri (Wild Swans) by Rajni Basumatary, Samarpan (Surrender) by Arup Manna, Hemanter Aparanha (Autumn Afternoon) by Ashoke Viswanathan, Onkara (The Ascension) by Unni KR, and A Boy Who Dreamt Of Electricity by Jigar Madanlal Nagda.
