Manipur violence: JAC demands Rs 20 lakhs ex-gratia and govt job for kins

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed over the tragic incident at Lilong has agreed to withdraw its proposed agitation after a three-hour-long meeting with the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the unfortunate incident rose to five after one patient succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.

At least four people were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a group of people at Lilong Chingjao under Thoubal district on Tuesday evening.

Following the incident, the JAC laid a host of demands to the State government including handing over the case to NIA, ex-gratia of twenty lakhs and government’s job for kins.

Speaking to media the members of the JAC, after the meeting with the CM, said that they had agreed with an ex-gratia of ten lakhs and an appropriate government job for every kin of the deceased people and those who suffered permanent injury during the unfortunate incident.

During the meeting, CM Singh expressed his deep sorrow for the unfortunate incident that happened at Lilong on 1st January.

Taking to X, Manipur Chief Minster N Biren Singh wrote, “Held a meeting with CSOs of the Meitei Pangal community at my official residence today in the presence of Hon’ble MP (RS) Sanajaoba Leisemba, Hon’ble Minister Shri K Govindas, Hon’ble MLA of Lilong, Shri Abdul Nasir and my officials. Express my deep sorrow for the unfortunate incident that happened at Lilong on 1st Jan.”

“We have come to an understanding where the religious leaders and CSOs of Meitei Pangal community have agreed to take the remains of the victims for their last rites”, Singh tweeted.

On Tuesday, CM Singh visited the victims’ family of the unfortunate incident that occurred at Lilong Monday and interacted with the bereaved family members.

While expressing his words of condolence to the victim’s family, he assured to nab the culprit and take stringent action against them as per the law.

Biren Singh informed that he had also visited the injured persons being treated at Raj Medicity and further stated that the Government would bear the expenses of their treatment.
