Manipur violence: DGP Rajiv Singh urges people to help restore normalcy

Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh has said that both the State Police and the Central forces have been working round the clock and sincerely without discriminating against any communities to resolve the ongoing violence for the past 5 months and to restore normalcy in Manipur.

He has urged the people of the state not to get influenced by “anti-social miscreants” and to consider resettling in places which were their original homes.

Addressing the media at the police headquarters in Imphal on Thursday, DGP Singh said that although the State Police and the Central forces put in their best efforts, the support and coordination from the people of the state is crucial for lasting peace.

“Please do not be influenced by anti-social, anti-national, armed miscreants who are attempting to disturb peace in some way. We know that this issue will not be resolved by the police alone, and it requires contributions from every section of society, ” he added.

The DGP maintained that stringent preventive measures are being taken by the Police and Central forces are helping in steadily taking stock of the ethnic clash.

Though firing incidents are still being reported in some places, as the two warring communities are trying to intimidate one another from their respective places, the tireless efforts put in by both State and Central forces resulted in to decline in firing, murder and abduction cases.

The DGP applauded the State Government’s move to increase police ration money and to ensure police welfare. He said that there has been a proposal for the State Government to recruit more female police officers. Police Modernization efforts are also being made to train State Police personnel.

Manipur has been on the boil since May 3, after violent clashes broke out between two communities.
