Manipur unrest: NESO bats for peace, appeals conflicting groups to sit for talks

The Northeast Students Organisation (NESO) have appealed all stakeholders, particularly the communities in conflict in violence affected Manipur to sit across the table and resolve issues through meaningful dialogues.
This was informed to Northeast Live by NESO Secretary General Mutsikhoyo Yhobo after an 18-member delegation of the NESO visited different parts of the state since August 1 for 3 days.
Briefing newspersons in Kohima, the NESO Secretary General revealed details about the visit of the delegation and said, “When we met the CSOs every CSO appreciated the initiative taken by the NESO. We called for peace to each and every community. They have different issues but as long as the violence continues, it is not possible to resolve the issues the agenda, the demands which they want. We appealed each and every community to shun violence and requested them to sit across the table and discuss as to what are the differences that they have.”
The NESO delegation also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
Speaking about the hopes and aspirations of the displaced people in the relief camps, Yhobo said, “We visited Manipur and the team of NESO had several meetings with the CSOs. When we visited the relief camps, interacted with the relief campers, be it from the Meitei or Kuki community, the displaced people they have expressed the same resentment and opinion, that they want to go back home.”
Naga Students Federation (NSF) K Tep who was also a part of the NESO delegation also shared details about the Manipur visit.
Tep said,”We got an oppurtunity to meet all the influential organisations which involved from both the communities. We had an interaction and appealed to the people of Manipur to restore peace and bring normalcy. We are of the opinion that at this juncture arms and bloodshed is not the answer and will not bring any solution to whichever both the communities are demanding.”
The NSF president also pointed out that Manipur is an educational hub for the Naga people which has a good number of Naga students enrolled in different courses particularly in MU, MAU and also other students who are pursuing their medical courses.
Tep said, “we have seen our people coming back when this incident started. Students are reaching out to the NSF to know whether they are safe to pursue their courses again. We have appealed the state govt to ensure their safety. We have appealed the Manipur govt to give assurance on the safety of students.”
