Manipur Tightens Security in Farming Areas After Farmer Attacks in Different Locations

First Published: 3rd July, 2025 18:26 IST

Joint combing operations are being carried out regularly in fringe and deep hill areas to track and flush out any miscreants.

With the farming season in full swing, security forces in Manipur have intensified their efforts to ensure the safety of farmers across both hill and valley regions. The move comes in response to a recent incident in different locations of Manipur, where armed miscreants attacked farmers in the fields, leaving one injured.

In a release, Manipur Police said that a high-level Combined Headquarters meeting was held on June 28, chaired by the Security Advisor and attended by the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, and representatives of all security forces. The meeting focused on reviewing current security arrangements related to farming and strengthening coordination among all forces to prevent such attacks.

Manipur Police personnel have been deployed in vulnerable farming zones across the state, working alongside Central Security Forces to protect farmers and farming activities. Security forces have also been redeployed around Phubala to bolster the area’s safety.

The Police Headquarters has issued alert messages to all District Superintendents of Police (SsP), directing them to implement enhanced security protocols immediately. “Senior police officers are personally visiting sensitive farming areas to supervise arrangements. Authorities have identified several high-risk agricultural zones that require increased surveillance and presence of forces,” the release said.

Joint combing operations are being carried out regularly in fringe and deep hill areas to track and flush out any miscreants. Additionally, flying squads and Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been set up to provide immediate assistance if required.

“District administrations and local police have also conducted multiple coordination meetings with farmers and the public to discuss safety measures, including designated farming hours,” the release added.

Police have urged the public, especially farmers, to stay vigilant and to notify local police or nearby security forces before entering potentially vulnerable farming zones. Authorities stressed that ensuring the safety of farmers remains a top priority, and any suspicious activity must be reported immediately.
